Messaging and calling capabilities are important functions that the Sony Erisson C510 will not fail to deliver. It has a Quad Band frequency, uses GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 plus HSDPA 2100 which is for 3G Video Calls. These frequencies are common in the UK and most of USA, so you won't have much problems connecting there. Roaming is easy for the C510, these frequencies are switched automatically so you wouldn't have to put any effort switching it. Network coverage depends much on the provider though, so keep it in mind when traveling.
Memory:
The phone has a basic memory of 100MB, pretty big just for saving contacts and messages. But you can have more using its Memory Stick Micro (M2) Support which enables the phone to have a much larger memory.
